236 of Utah’s 40,287 wells name no operator at all — the state files them to a placeholder rather than to a company — so the figures above count against the 40,051 that do. Utah files the operator's number on each well, so these wells are matched by that number and not by a name.

The register also records each operator’s mailing address, phone number and named contact. This site publishes none of them — an operator page carries the company, its state number, its status and the city its office is in.
