Privacy policy

The short version

You can use this site without an account. We do not ask for your name, we do not set a login cookie, and we do not sell personal information. The only thing you can send us is a message on the contact page, and only if you choose to.

Information you give us

The contact form takes a message and, optionally, an email address. We use the email address only to reply to you. If you leave it blank, we read the message and cannot answer it.

Your submission also carries basic technical context — the page you were on, your browser and operating system, your screen size, your language and your time zone. This helps us reproduce a problem you report. Do not put anything confidential in the message.

Information collected automatically

Like most sites, we record general usage so we know which pages are useful. This includes:

• The pages you visit and how long you stay
• The site or search engine that referred you
• Your browser and device type
• Your approximate location, at the country or region level

We do not try to identify you from this, and we do not build a profile of you across other sites.

Cookies and analytics

We use two analytics services. Fathom Analytics is privacy-friendly and cookieless — it does not track you between sites. Google Analytics does set cookies. You can block cookies in your browser settings; the site works normally without them.

We do not use advertising cookies, because this site carries no advertising.

Service providers

The site runs on Cloudflare, which serves every page and keeps standard request logs. Contact-form messages reach us through Slack and email. These providers process data on our behalf and under their own privacy policies.

The public records on this site

Lease, operator, county and pipeline pages republish filings that the State of Texas already publishes. Those records are public and they are about companies and permits, not about you as a visitor. Nothing you do on this site is added to them.

If a record here is wrong, tell us on the contact page. We can correct how we present a filing. We cannot change the filing itself — that is a matter for the agency that holds it.

Data retention and security

We keep contact messages for as long as they are useful, and analytics data for as long as the analytics service keeps it. We take reasonable measures to protect what we hold. No method of transmission over the internet is completely secure.

Children

This site is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them.

Your choices

You can block cookies, use a tracker-blocking extension, or simply not use the contact form. If you have sent us a message and want it deleted, ask us and we will delete it.

Changes

We may update this policy. Any new version appears on this page with a new date above.
